Questions & Answers

What's the best time to visit Colca Canyon?

The best time to visit Colca Canyon is during the dry season from April to November when weather conditions are most favorable. During these months, you’ll experience clear skies and optimal visibility for condor watching, with temperatures ranging from 20°C (68°F) during the day to near freezing at night. The mornings at Cruz del Condor typically offer the best conditions for observing condors, while the afternoon light is perfect for photography of the canyon landscape.

How physically demanding is this tour?

The Classic Colca Canyon Tour is moderately challenging due to the high altitude rather than physical exertion. While there’s minimal hiking involved, you’ll reach altitudes of up to 4,800 meters (15,748 feet) at Patapampa viewpoint. Most activities involve short walks and observation from viewpoints. We recommend spending at least one day in Arequipa (2,335m) before the tour to help with altitude acclimatization. The tour is suitable for most travelers with average fitness levels.

What should I pack for the Colca Canyon tour?

Essential items include warm layers of clothing (temperatures can vary significantly), comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), swimwear and towel for hot springs, camera, water bottle, and any personal medications. Due to the altitude, we recommend bringing warm clothing even during summer months. A light raincoat is advisable year-round. Don’t forget to bring some cash for additional expenses and small bills for tips. Personal snacks and extra water are also recommended.
